Yoga & Developmental Movement for Adults

In this hour-long class, we use yoga as a vehicle to explore a variety of developmental movement, somatic, and Body-Mind Centering® principles. This is a class suitable for all ages and ability levels, however we do recommend being able to get yourself up and down from the floor. The class incorporates a variety of yoga styles (vinyasa, hatha, restorative) from week to week along with somatic movement practices such as intuitive movement, embodiment, bouncing, crawling, and rolling. If you are looking to deepen your body knowledge, supplement your more traditional yoga practice, and explore different ways to think about how you move in familiar shapes, then this class is for you! Some yoga experience is helpful, but not required. Please bring a mat and wear comfortable clothes for free movement. We have all the props you might need on site.

Intro to Authentic Movement Workshops

Authentic Movement is a contemplative movement practice, performed either in partnership or a group setting that asks participants to engage in both “mover” and “witness” roles. The practice does not have a specific form, but instead asks movers to follow their own internal impulses and abandon their preconceived notions about how and when to move their bodies. The witness role asks participants to learn how to truly observe without judgment which helps both mover and witness to find more truth and authenticity in themselves in any given moment.

In these workshops, you will be introduced to the practice of Authentic Movement in a safe and supportive environment. Some workshop activities might include: a variety of prompts to invite participants into movement, drawing and journaling, activities to to create community within the group, body-awareness practices, and practices to begin to explore the more traditional Authentic Movement protocols. No experience required!
